Just looking around the room, I have no ornaments. I have a few books wedged in between book ends, an old wind up mantle clock, a couple of photo frames that's it!

You may as well ask why do people have venetian blinds or radiators - these also attract dust. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. An ornament may be an adornment, embellishment or a treasured gift/memento.

Things that are useful are fine ... those are not ornaments.

Things that give me pleasure tend to stay out of sight in a bedroom drawer.

I only keep (and put on show) the ones that remind me of someone i really care about!

JJ I love your typo LOL - <Thongs> that give you pleasure, I would hope they jolly well do stay in yoru bedroom drawer. No way I have my thongs on display.....(PS no way I have thongs anyway!)
