I have a boiler listed as a contender for the boiler scrappage scheme. I also have a friend who is a "Gas Safe Registered" installation engineer. He can get a boiler at cost ;saving me plenty pennies! The problem is how do I / can I do that through him directly rather than his employer who will charge somewhat more and then mega installation cost on top?
TIA

I think you need to put that question to him , don't you? your friend i mean, and just to help, if he says he can get you the boiler at cost , then ask him if he can fit it for you on the side, ok, and save you a few more £s
It isn't in the price of the boiler where the big savings are to be made - it is in the cost of the installation.
The answer is precisely as Mr Wonker suggests. Your friend needs to establish whether he is permitted to undertake such work off his own back. It might well be a breach of his employment contract to do such a thing. That is of no consequence to you, but it is to him.
I agree that the Gas Safe registration scheme registers the individual, not the company, but it is his name (not the company) that is going to have to appear on the installation certification. I have no idea if he can do that - but he will.
