Free room rental in return for OAP help?

I saw an elderly couple on TV, possibly Antiques Roadshow's Henry Sandon and wife, talking about a scheme. They let a room in their house rent free and the tenant does a little shopping and housekeeping for the couple in return. It's a win/win situation!
Does anyone know anything about this scheme? I know some elderly people who would be very interested but I cannot find any mention of it. Neither BBC or Age Concern can help.
Any thoughts that I can then follow up would be most gratefully received.
