I had double glazing installed and it's still under guarantee, but there is a problem with it. As the phone number is now unobtainable, how do I find out if they have gone into liquidation? They could have just moved and changed their number!. Many thanks. Marymint.

Check on the companies house website to see if the company is in liquidation, I can also see basic company information for free, like current registered address and you could write to them there.

You can pay online to find out more information like directors information and accounts.

But if the company has gone into liquidation or administration, if you do a general web search for the company name and the words' liquidation or administration, it will usually come up with advertisements in papers where a meeting of creditors was arranged and liquidator has to advertise the meetings. There you will find the details of the liquidator who you can contact about any possible financial recovery for you. You can register as a creditor but more that likely the company will have limited assets and filling out a 'proof of debt' would just be pointless and Insolvency Practitioner in charge of the company liquidation will be able to advise you with regards making a claim.

The FENSA certificate confirms the windows conform to minimum insulation standards - nothing else. I doubt the 'problem' relates to that. But you still should have one.

buildersmate. I don't seem to have a FENSA certificate. Is it automatically given?
All installations of windows since April 2002 have had to comply with an enhanced part of Building Regs. So either a Building Control application has to be made, or (much more usually) the supplier must be a member of FENSA - which is the trade body set up by the Glass and Glazing Federation to uphold standards. Members self-certify their work, then you get a FENSA certificate. Use the website Ethel gave you above to check whether the supplier is a member. If it is not and it is still trading, your local Trading Standards may be interested. In itself, this may help you get the work redone (you haven't said what the problem is.
If it is a member, you can get a replacement certificate from FENSA - again refer to the website. Yoiu will very likely need it when you eventually sell the house.

Thank you, bulidersmate, for your very full answer. In the meantime, I have been attempting to get in touch with the firm who are in charge of the liquidation, but haven't been able to get through with an email or on the phone. Will persevere. Marymint.
