Depends entirely on the size of it. Ours is about 3m by 3m and we didn't. Go to your local council's website. You may find the answer under their planning section.
Hi Wooley the first answer is correct. I found the council fairly helpfull. Ring the planning office and they will send you the relavent info. There are (as always) H & S issues but basically if you stick to thier guidelines you will have no hassle from them. C J
It depends whether you can use your Permitted Development Rights. These allow you to enlarge a dwelling from the ORIGINAL size (as built), or at 1 January 1948 if an old house. The amount you can enlarge depends on the type of house, but most conservatories will not be of such a large size to bust the limit. Some dwellings don't have Permitted Development Rights, so do as the 2 above suggest.
Usually no. depends on size. I contacted local council about whether is needed permission, and found that I did.The rear of my house backs onto a public road., and because I was within 20 metres of the road I needed permission. They wrote to my immediate neighbours to ask if they had any objections. Put it on their website, and charged me l30 before they gave me the go ahead.
Yes, it's a percentage of your existing property or a maximum based on cubic feet.

Check with the local planners - You will not be able to sell your house if it turns out it was required.

With reagrds permitted devevlopment rights as stated above, the LA will also take into account any previous development on the property (This may not be relevant) however, if you have extended previously, it's likely you will have used your permitted development right.

Also - Is the propoerty listed, in a conservation area etc etc.
Permitted development counts for nothing if you are.

Check before doing anything.
