Under the circumstances, No!
Nope.
Common sense, no way give a key or a spare....doh !

It's the ///she doesn't know him and is away on hols in 3 weeks///bit that made up my mind.

that's what |I said but someone else said well he's in your house and your not there all the time so whats the difference.

She hasn't given him a key by the way
I wouldn't give a key to someone I didn't know.

What I am struggling to work out is how your daughter expects to get her decorating done without the decorator gaining access???
Why did she arrange for work to be done if she is going on holiday? Is she out all day while he is working there now ? And No, dont give him a key, he will have to finish the work when she gets back from hols. And dont give him money for the complete job before he comes back and finishes it !
Why not give the key to a neighbour that she knows and trusts? They could let him in every day, and lock up when they leave.
As with anything, Nanny, it just depends on how well you know them. It's not an unusual practice. I have either spare keys for a few houses, or I know where they're hidden!

I think a tradesman has to be a "regular" for you to be comfortable.
