A landline cellphone?

You mean a cordless phone?
Any landline will work in buildings with thick walls.
I have a BT Freestyle, and it still works if I go outside, downstairs, and into the car park ...

... so that's not too bad.

sorry, yes I mean a cordless phone, not good on these tech details
we have problems too but a lot depends where you put the base station try it in different positions
I have the same problem, and have run extension lines to several rooms and installed one of those cordless multi-phone sets. I can answer on one of the phones, and if necessary, set it aside, go into another part of the house and pick up a different extension phone, and carry on the conversation. It's a cheaper option than buying a repeater for around £120 that may or may not work throughout your house. (and, by the way, which is shown to be 'currently unavailable' through Chuck's link!)

Thanks to you all for the input. Have been looking at the BT Verve 450 and it appears to hopefully suit the bill. The house is a converted WW2 airfield control tower and I'm telling you the walls are THICK and signal is lost very quickly away from the base phone. Will give it a whirl, can't be any worse than what we've got. ;)
