Stained hallway ceiling after leaking bathroom pipes

Does anyone have any tried and tested products they have used to cover up the "brown staining" that is left after a water leak.

We have had work carried out to our bathroom and in the mist of it all the plumber "made a mistake" causing a nice leak under the floor boards. This has subsequently come through into our downstairs ceiling and left a lovely array of brown stains.

I am about to repaint the hallway anyway but has anyone experienced the same problem and what did you put over the stain before re-painting??

Thanks

An oil based paint as an undercoat.
Polycelll "Stain Stop" its in a aerosel can, spray over the water stain and after 24 hours you can emulsion. We had the same problem and this product does work.
oil based paint
Thompson's Damp/Stain sealer ... £10 tho, from B&Q.
Oooh I need to know that since a disaster with the power shower pump upstairs. Not stalking you Albags, too much of a nice old bird to do that!
I had a bathroom fitted on the top floor and like you, something went amiss in the connections on the first night and water came through the ceiling in the bedroom below. It was their fault, I insisted that they repainted the ceiling. The company did what honky-tonk suggested. Get them to do it at their expense, they were negligent in causing the damage in the first place!
Hi, if you don't want to go to the expense of buying special sealer try mixing oil based undercoat and gloss paint together and paint that on and leave to dry. After that just paint with emulsion as you would usually. The 2 together will seal the stains and also allow the emulsion to adhere to it. Good luck. Shed.
pva glue thinned down a bit works too
lol Prudie ...
Actually I wasn't laughing!!
Use Polycell Stain Block - aerosol, then paint over it
