I have an LG slimax upright hoover about 8 years old. it has been a great machine up until now. When I turn it on, after about 30 seconds, it makes the most horrendous high pitched screeching noise. I thought I would try process of elimination, fitted clean bag, fitted new drive belt and checked the brush rollers were clean in case anything was tangled around the tube. Hoover still screeching like a banshee. Before I chuck it out, any ideas what may be wrong with it? I am not complaining, I have certainly had my moneys worth out of this great little machine, but I think maybe the motor has finally given up the ghost.

It will no doubt be the Motor bearings that are knackered. Probably better to buy a new one rather than have someone repair it as Parts and Labour charges may well be more than the cost of a new one !

It may also be that the brushes of the Motor have worn down and the Brush holders are rubbing against Rotor segments, but if that is the case the Vac should not work at all.

thanks redman, I think you are probably right. Never had anything like this happen before on the hoover, even when it needed a new drive belt before it did not make this dreadful noise. I am off to look for a new one at the weekend, as you say, having this one repaired probably would not be worth it. Cheers
