it used to be they got changed before going off on the honeymoon. I think it's still normal to stay dressed up for the reception
Well, I got married over 28 years ago and I changed from my white gown into a party frock!!!

My hubby stayed in his suit though, losing the jacket and bow tie during the course of the evening.
It's up to the individual bride, most weddings I have been to the bride stays in her wedding dress but I have also been the odd one where she has changed into something else.

Personally I think it is nice for the people who are coming to the evening reception but didn't go to the church to see the dress so I would leave it on!
I think it's up to the individual. I don't even want to get married, but if I did, I'd want to stay in it all day. You only have the one day to wear it and they cost a fortune! :)
Stay in the wedding dress for the evening reception so the evening guests can see the blushing bride...then change only if you wish when you leave the reception.
I am not sure that it matters too much these days. But people do like to see the bride in her finery.

When I got married, I chose a straight dress with a detachable train. In the evening I took the train off and took my veil off and it was like a very glamorous evening dress.
ahh Barmaid my dress was like that too - it had a detachable fishtail skirt

Thanks for your replys guys! Yes its a tricky one but I like whiskeysheri thought if your going to get married once then why not make the most of your dress & stay in it all day, you only have one chance!

The other thing is to consider, is if you spill something on it like red wine or food and even dancing you have to be so extra careful!
It doesn't matter if you spill anything on it during the evening - you will never wear it again
I suppose it depends how uncomfortable the wedding dress is really. When my brother got married several years ago his bride wore an enormous dress with full hooped underskirt etc.It looked lovely but presented a real problem when she needed the loo at the reception. It took 3 of us to hold her dress out of the way whilst she had a wee.lol
