solid pine chairs

Have 4 solid pine chairs about 15ish years old. My 'darling' toddler had drawn on every single one with felt tip pen and it seems to have sunk through the varnish. Has anyone any idea how to remove said felt pen?? have tried white spirit etc but no luck.
