If you have CH, just turn the thermostat(s) down to give background heat - say 15 degrees.
What if it's really freezing while you're gone - is there a neighbour that can come in to check there are no burst pipes - would be horrid to come home to if there was!
otherwise, I leave mine on timer to come on/off throughout the day, but i've not done it for 5 weeks. Buildersmates idea sounds good though.
Can i come on holiday with you - don't take up much room in the suitcase!!!!!!!!!
Probably wise to turn off the water stop **** in case of freezing and burst pipes.
stopcock
if you turn the stopco*k off then remember to leave the heating off too
Why?

I would leave it on low.
I would leave the heating on 24 hours a day but turn the heating right down to about 15 - 16 degrees. If you're going away now, we're running into the coldest part of the winter and the nights can get extremely cold. It's not worth risking frozen pipes. And don't forget to ensure you have a couple of lights, upstairs and downstairs, left on automatic timers, visible from the front of your house, so that the burglars don't know your house is unoccupied !
