With gloss paint it is difficult. You could try a bit of turps on a rag if it is a small stain. If not, cut the top of the pile of the carpet with the paint on it (again if it is small) and it won't notice.

Dried by now then? You could try paint brush restorer, it has something in that dissolves solid paint. BUT, try it somewhere out of the way first, in case it stains your carpet (it's often dyed bright purple).
Or, if the paint hasn't soaked into the carpet, try 'shaving' the paint off , but this will leave a obvious mark.
If you have any cut offs left over you could (very carefully) use a stanley knife and cut out the offending area and match it up exactly with a fresh piece. (no-nails that bit to the floor)
Obviously don't try this till you've used turps or whatever potions and lotions you can get your hands on first.

Also it wouldn't work too well on a thin carpet, but on a nice thick one, you'll barely notice ;-)
