So the daughter has said she would like a plain white dinner service for Xmas, and I'm struggling. The problem is she doesn't want one with the deep soup bowls, but she wants the 'old-fashioned' shallow bowls with a 'lip'.
I've looked at John Lewis, M&S, Debenhams, The White Company, but can't find a suitable one so any suggestions please. She hasn't said whether she wants a 4 or 6 place setting...

Nice bednobs but they're out of stock, I could ring them to see if they're getting some more...

Have a look at Amazon -White belgravia 12piece bone China dinner service, the bowls don't have a lip but look fairly flat
You don't have to worry about being seen there... you can order online :)
we have that service (well bits of it; we can't afford it all) and they always seem to have loads in the shop
They are called soup plates, not bowls, so that might help your search

Cargo is sometimes very good.
Good luck.
Got all mine from Matalan.. all sizes of plates.. which are all very flat... flat soup bowls.. no lip though.. and you can buy each piece seperatly...so I bought 10 place settings.. had a BIG dinner party..lol.. resonably priced.. so she could add to it.. serving dishes etc..Help you find it... ...sometimes I despair.
That's kids for you.
There's a subtle shade of white. ;o)
I knew I saw some in Wilkinson's last week, but now they are called 'Pasta Bowls' instead of soup plates!

Mamya......she's 44.
Haven't looked at all the answers - but I would die before I would have Denby in my house.

My neighbour got it for a wedding present many years ago and sometimes she sends me over dishes with it - for me to eat from it - I transfer it.

Denby is so coarse - cant eat from it and cant drink from it. The most ugliest of all.

Thanks Conne...I use Denby.
