So the daughter has said she would like a plain white dinner service for Xmas, and I'm struggling. The problem is she doesn't want one with the deep soup bowls, but she wants the 'old-fashioned' shallow bowls with a 'lip'.
I've looked at John Lewis, M&S, Debenhams, The White Company, but can't find a suitable one so any suggestions please. She hasn't said whether she wants a 4 or 6 place setting...

No specialist pottery places in the nearest town ?

I got a service fairly similar many moons ago from a retail place in one of the backstreets of Clifton. Try your Yellow Pages or Thomsons Local maybe.
Argos have a couple with the more shallow bowls, another option is to buy separates I guess.

amazon.

Thank you both for your replies. I don't know of any local potteries and the Argos one isn't the right shape.
Would you believe that the criteria is she must be able to get 2 Weetabix side by side in the soup/cereal bowl!

Have tried Amazon anne until my eyes glazed over and mamya unfortunately the one you found there isn't plain (sorry).
square then?
Blimey, if she can do 2 weetabix, I'd get it right!!!

You could try a large antiques fair. Generally they will be patterned, but I have seen plain white sets for sale. At least then you'll get the old fashioned type dishes.
Is this any good? http://www.maxwellandwilliams.co.uk/store/dining/white-basics-rim/

I don't have any weetabix to measure ;-)
Sorry Craft - it looks plain to me but that means nothing lol.
queensbury hunt in john lewis
I would ask her to find one she likes and let you know where to get it.
You could try home base, ikea, dunelm or Argos

Actually Eccles that looks quite promising....I could always tell her to eat her Weetabix out of the white pasta bowls I bought her last year.
IKEA?

(runs away quickly)...
