I have a longcase clock with the name of William Winton on the clockface. I assume he must be the clockmaker but can find nothing about him anywhere. Can anyone tell me anything about him please? I think the clock was probably built around the 1920s/1930s.

Is it a brass movement with brass face?
Or Iron movement and ornate face?
I have a William Prestige Longcase in mahogany .... single-handed ... about 1700.
You need to know movement structure material and face detail material.
Is there a bell or chime? Hourly or 1/4 hourly?

It has a brass face with a single hand. The face is quite ornate. In each of the four corners there is what looks like a human face encircle by some scrolling. In the centre of the face is something which could be a couple of birds. The case is in farily good condition but it has not worked for years so I'm not sure if it chimes or not. I think the parts are all there and I would like to get it repaired. It has a heavy weight and a pendulum which I think is also brass but could be iron as it is also quite heavy. I seem to think that my father used to talk about his father bringing it back from America (he was a ships steward and made several trips there) but I could be wrong about that.
try looking up old retailers instead. often the name on the dial is the shop that sold it with the makers mark or name on the inner workings or inside the case
