hello everyone
I hope someone can help, I was at my daughters and she asked me if I knew what was on one of her plants I had no idea so hoping there is someone who does, the top of the plant which is about 6ft tall and about 5ft spread is covered in what looks like silk thread, it's really strange but it seems to be killing the plant hope one of you can help.

thanks for your reply hawkwalk but it's nothing like a spiders web it's looks as if gossamer has been laid across the top of the plant I know that sounds daft but it's the only the way I can describe it also like I said whatever it is itseems to be killing the plant.
I have had a similar problem with two cotoneasters in my garden, and saw the same at one at the front of another building today. The branches have all gone brown and died off so gave one a sever prune last weekend and then found another one with the same problem a few days later so that has been pruned back.
At first I wondered if it was a Tent spider, but now wonder if it is a spider mite. Hope it does not start infesting all the plants in the garden.
Have a google at what the Vapourer moth can do to plants, see if it's that.
