I have a Hazelnut tree on my allotment. I got the allotment last year but didn't bother with the tree until now.
It stands about 20 feet tall in some places and there are branches thick and thin everywhere. It has about 4 or 5 what you'd call trunks.
I do not know anything about pruning trees so where do i start? How short do i prune the branches? How long will it take for the tree to grow back?
Please help. It seems like the ideal time of the year to start attacking it!

The pruning and general care of the hazelnut/cobnut tree varies according to what you want to do with it. You can coppice it, if you want fencing poles, you can manage it and create a hedge or grow it for the nuts.To give extensive advice to cover the options would take a lot of space and exhaust my two fingers(plus thumb!). May I suggest therefore that you go on the web where you will find, I'm sure lots of info. to suit your requirements.
