I put a row in and have only had two grow
so have now sown another lot , did they not
germinate because of the weather ? The other
growers on the allotment said they had problems
last year , any clues too what the problem is ?

Parsnip seeds for this year must be seeds from last year's crop. You can't sow the same seeds two years running. Also, they take quite a while in germinating.
parsnips are very temperamental. we are already on our third sowing of the year as the first two failed to produce and of the two rows (3 metres) only ten or eleven have started to show. they like perfect conditions for germinating i.e. not too hot, not too cold, not too damp, not too dry etc. perseverence is the only advice I can give!
