Old potatoes now growing in my compost heap - Edible?

I threw out some spuds that had gone soft and put them in the compost. I now have leaves growing up from them.
Will they produce potatoes, and will they be safe to eat if so? Cheers. Ironically I bought seed potatoes and have planted them out - hoping for a crop this year!

Sure, they're the same as seed potatoes. Try grabbing an extra large handfull of compost with the roots of the potato plant and stick it in a prepared hole in the garden, should work...
