Growing strawberries in a container...

... such as a hanging basket or box.
Anyone tried this? Does it produce a lot of fruit? Any particular strawberry - such as alpine? Or is it all much more trouble than it's worth & they are better planted in the ground?

Grow them in a proper hanging plastic bag or pot and use a good compost,like Levingtons, keep watered at all times and you will have more than you can eat.
QVC were recently selling wicker hanging baskets with strawberry plug plants - which they said were the sweetest strawberries you could get..
there is a strawberry variety called Temptation that is specifically for hanging baskets. Thats the ones im growing this year.
I've just planted a basket up myself so I will let you know in a couple of months, so it will be interesting to hear others advice re varieties etc. for next year
