We have a lilac tree at the bottom of our garden. We moved it 2 years ago (very carefully) and it seemed to have survived okay. The flowers were smaller last year compared to before we moved it. However, this year the tree is covered in a yellowy, gold mould over the branches. The tree itself has a number of buds showing but I am wondering what to do about the yellowy colour on the bark/branches.

Even though you moved it carefully there might be a bit of "catch-up" going on. It doesn't help if you have moved to a shady, overly sheltered position nor if you pruned the wrong growth.
They love a sunny,well ventilated spot with good drainage (as they don't like soggy roots!!) and they flower on new wood.

P.S. A previous posting of yours regarding gravel might indicate that you have a soggy garden.(?)
