My Hydrangea's Looks Dead

About 2-3 months ago i brought 2 blue hydrangea but now they look dead but i have been told to cut them to the bottom and leave the roots as they will grow again next year.

can anybody tell me if this is true or should i dig them up and plant something else.

Did you plant them in peaty soil (Ericatious) and keep them wet? If so they should recover. Best of luck.

Leave them as they are at present. In late spring dead-head any shoots which have flowered and you should get new growth. If you cut back to the ground now you will get new growth in spring but will not get flowering shoots next year.
