My fave Uncle is 75 this week and I wanted to buy him something special. He loves gardening and I was thinking about getting him a rose. Can anyone suggest a nice one or one that has a meaningful name to go with his celebration.

Look forward to your suggestions,

Thanks in advance!

Perhaps you could re-post with his name, I might then be able to give you a link. Meanwhile have a look at the English Roses on David Austins site. There is a good range of colours, repeat flowering with superb perfumes.

Bromsgrove, thank you for picking up that I didn't put a name!! His name is Brian, if that is of any help.
Why not let him name a rose himself?

I'd suggest, out of kindness, not buy a Tea Rose... although beautiful (they're the kind, single flower to single stem sold by florists) they are also a lot more subject to fungal infections such as Black Spot, than are Floribundas or Grandifloras. Here's a website, although U.S. based, (where i live) can provide a good idea of what you might like and many are internationally registered and may be available in the U.K.

Happy birthday to Uncle!
when my dad died, a good friend of mine bought me a rose called 'sexy rexy' as she couldn't find one with my dad's name. my dad would have laughed about it, as i did, if he'd known. i was very touched that my friend had taken the time and trouble, so maybe your uncle won't really mind about the name being a perfect match, but just appreciate your kind thought.
My Sister sent me a rose last year, named after me. It was one of the best gifts I have ever received. It also came with a certificate.
I will try to have a look and find out what company sent it.
It could be the same one that pooshunny mentioned.
I can vouch for the David Austin "Old English collection"..Of all the roses I have its the only rose that actually smells like a rose.. its absolutely fabulous.. Its a really strong musky rose scent.. its called The inimitable Mr **** you'll see it if you go onto his site...sorry can't remember the name
