Thank you K and Sarumite. Does the word telamon have any meaning at all?
Hello G. It is an architectural term for a supporting pillar hence 'column' in your clue.
Also anagram of A Motel +N (back of Nelson)
Telamon - A mythical hero. A male figure used as a pillar to support an entablature or other structure.
Telamon . . A man's figure used as a supporting pillar (Chambers)
