Can anyone tell me how to kill a tree stump quickly and effectively?The stump is approx 6 inches diameter and I've sawn it flush with the lawn,I just need to soften it sufficiently to remove the top 2 or 3 inches so I can reseed!!

No magic formula for a quick kill except to dig it out.

For a more long term kill. drill holes down into the stump and fill up with a mix of neat roundup and diesel.

you can buy a tree stump killer have seen it on ebay for about �6 dont know how long it takes to work though.
