Thank you sense4all. The lock in question has no barrel.
However, I will try all the leads you have given me and hopefully I will find a replacement. Being an aluminium door, it won't be possible to do any 'patching' up as would be a wooden door. Many thanks for your interest, regards Trish.
Trish Sorry for delay in answering but I had to wait until I went to work to get this info.
Sego were taken over by Laird Hardware who make door furniture.
Their number is 01376 507507.
It maybe that the lock/door in question is now obsolete. I hope not. Hope this helps Rgds Al
PS Laird have a web on internet

Hi Al - this looks like the best lead yet and I'll certainly try Sego. It appears that they're not too far from me at Witham, Essex. Then, I'll try Laird.

We've now had the replacement double glazed units fitted but would you believe it - it was actually the glaziers who broke the lock ! It was a beautifully designed lock of polished aluminium with an indentation (for want of a better description) for use as a handle, situated in the centre of the down frame and looks really neat . Unfortunately, the glaziers have had no success in finding a replacement and they want to leave the existing lock in situ (not working) and fit rather a large - in my view - ugly lock at the top of the frame.

So, once again, thanks all for your help, regards Trish
HI Trish Many thanks for reply. Keep me in touch Best of luck Al
Trish The company is called Cego who made Aluminium Doors, the particular lock your after, was only made for Cego, I reccomend You contact a company in southend called D. G. Supplyline. Tel 01702 351 911. they will be able to sort it. I have bought many items which are now obsolete, they may even reccomend someone who may be able to fit it, as well.

Well thank you to everyone for the very informative answers. Aren't there lots of nice people on AB forum. Will now try D G Supplyline at Southend too.

Hope to get the problem sorted soon. Husband has managed to find a small neat lock for top of door similar to the lock at the bottom. The mid-door lock is the major problem though - this does not actually lock as such with a key but has a latch mechanism and I believe the glaziers stood the door on the ground on it's side thus putting pressure on the 'latch' part of the lock and forcing it out of position.

Off to the Cotswold tomorrow for a holiday but taking all my valuables (such as they are) with me as my daughter had her house burgled a week ago in Kingston-upon-Thames. Think patio doors will be safe enough with top & bottom locks though and all windows in property are double glazed and lockable. Also, always use time-switch lights to turn on every evening.

Many thanks Al and InfiniteArc for your interest and help.
