Radiators - height

Is there some rule out there about the height radiators should be above the floor? (everything else semms to have one!)

There is no precise rule but for efficiency's sake it should be set off the floor and wall far enough to permit easy circulation of air around it - the brackets supplied with them usually ensure the latter is satisfied. Many aim to have it 30-40mm above any skirting board for aesthetic reasons - in practice the minimum height is likely to be of the order of 150mm or more.
I've forwarded your question to the ODPM, and they have promised legislation will be introduced in the spring.

thanks both - we'd read somewhere that it should be 8", but glad there is (as yet) no rule.

There will be! A gaping hole in the legislation, on an important subject; how could the government resist this one!


BTW, easier to paint both the wall and the skirting board if you have them a bit higher than is usual.

You can't be serious ! A law for how to mount radiators ?! Time to leave Britain - or is this just a wind-up (surely it is) ?
