I said yesterday on a thread that we’d not had any complaints about our sainsburys click and collect, and that any substitutions had made sense and were acceptable.
Today, instead of three Bramley apples to make apple sauce, we’ve received three packs of six Braeburn apples!
I know it’s not the end of the world but we now have 18 eating apples we dont want, as well as four Jazz apples and four Pink lady apples which we do want.
I really must remember to tick ‘no substitutions’ on certain items..

Do they? Well, who’d have known that! :)
Do they make decent apple sauce? That’s what I want to make, to freeze for future use. If they do then 18 apples is going to make a heck of a lot of it!
I've used normal eating apples for apple sauce.

Also used them caramelised to go with pork.
My order was the other way round, I ordered 4 Braeburns and got 4 huge Bramleys, not good when you want an apple with some cheese!

Yes, eating apples do make great crumbles, pies and sauces. Bramley's are marketed as 'cooking apples' because they are not fit for eating raw.
Yum! As you have plenty of apples try the first recipe here - toffee apple pies

All these recipes use eating apples
All you need to do is go onto your account and click Returns. Choose 'substitution not suitable' and they will refund you the full amount for the apples, which you don't have to return. I always use eating apples for pies and sauce as I like my apples chunky and I find Bramleys go to mushy really quickly. Just use less sugar. Having once been sent a 4 litre bottle of clothes softener instead of a 1 litre bottle of washing machine anti bac cleanser, I'm very careful of which items to click 'no substitute.'
I ordered both peaches and nectarines from Tesco and didn't tick no substitutions. They didn't have peaches so now I've good 2 different sorts of nectarines. But the good thing is now I've got something to pass onto my lovely neighbour who puts a newspaper through the door from time to time.
I never buy cooking apples, always cook with eaters. The make much nicer apple sauce, pies, crumbles and so on and don't fall apart when cooked....also no need to add any sugar.
