I have every concern and sympathy with the inhabitants of Texas and surrounding areas, due to Tropical Storm Harvey.

But in many parts of the world, these kind of events are an everyday occurrence, and many, many people die every year.

Sad as it is, hurricanes and monsoons are a regular occurrence and a fact of life.
I'm not sure what the question is?

It's very sad that innocent people die but we can't control the weather.
There are so many things that could be done to try and limit the impact of such weather events, not least among them diverting funds from space programmes and nuclear projects to storm drains and the like but nobody ever got to puff up their chest at world summits over their sewage systems.
The hundred+ dead children in a hospital from encephalitis seems more of a concern in a 'modern' country.

I was just trying to put things into perspective.
It seems to me that wherever you are in the world those most affected by flood, storm, disease and other natural disasters are the poorest in any community....and those people are the least cared for and about by the state and the huge businesses and a very large number of the general population. This situation just carries on and on and on.....
^and it always will. The poor will always be in the majority.
Nature is a formidable force, sad sights indeed.
Sadly Naomi they will with out help and people simply don't want to help ..... in this country they will happily abuse them and where they live and where they have come from.......we are all human but some do not show their humanity....I think it makes those that are better off feel superior.....
Hate to get on the climate change trip - but these floods and storms are getting worse because of it.
MallyJ, if everyone was given, say, £1m, very soon most would be poor again because few would use it wisely. That’s life.

SP....tell that to Trump !
Well, wouldn't you know it! Monsoons in India are Trump's fault too! Who'd a guessed?! ;o)
Oh Naomi that is such a sad outlook on life and on our fellow citizens.....now I might blow it all, some on me because I am old and wouldlove to have some serious fun without worrying about the future but I would leave a load to my favourite charities....having said that peple who are starving have a tendency to stuff their faces so I suspect if yyou have never had enough money to make you feel and be safe you may well go nuts with a winfall...but only because you have not had it before...if we all had sufficient then things may well be different
should have taken typing lessons at school................

MallyJ, it might be sad but its realistic.
Perhaps some dodgy Wikipedia editing has resulted in putting the trump of God together with Moses greatest feat.

It's been that kind of day.
It's sad. I used to get upset and give more than I could afford. It's still sad, but I no longer give money abroad. I have helped this year with a clothes/equipment run for central European street children.
Governments have had time & money to alleviate,
Now I concentrate on local needs, homeless and child carers - I make a difference here. Governments must get on and cope.
Maybe it's "God's" way of
controlling the world's population?
It's certainly nature's way. I vaguely remember something about foxes and rabbits at college. Foxes increased until they killed too many rabbits - then they decreased until the rabbits increased.
Nature will always fight back. The worlds population is closing in fast on it's maximum. Something has to give and it wont be nature.
