My daughter has been growing geraniums on a windowsill next to an open window. She wants to put them outside in pots today and has asked my advice. I don't know what to tell her,I would take a chance but wondered what gardening ABers thought. Thanks for any advice.

Thanks mazie,I'll ring her now.
Happy to help give up x
depends where you are...here in hampshire its lovely during the day but still too cold at night, further north it might still be too cold in the day time too. Even allowing for "normal" weather, you can't reliably put tender plants out until May. If she decides to risk it, she should make sure that they are in a position to get maximum sun (should do that for geraniums anyway) and either take in at night or wrap in fleeece overnight. In any case, the bigger the plant, the better the chance of success.
She can. But she'll have to run out and fetch them in every time a frost is forecast or they'll all be black the next morning:-(

Thanks woofgang. (if they die she'd blame me anyway as they do)
Black plastic like bin bags make a good night cover keeps in warmth and moisture.
I put mine out every day but still being them inside again every night - 4 deg here last night not good for them!
Bit too early yet, unless your prepared to bring them in overnight. Last two days here (Essex) overnight temps below zero and frosty start.
