why do brits not wear sunscreen?

I have an allergy to the sun so I wear long sleeves, full length trousers and keep my feet covered. I put sunscreen on my face.

I do - I am virtually see through with regards to my paleness and always wear sunscreen if I know I am going to be outside for longer than ten minutes. I know what you mean though, no regard for their own safety.

I think most do, it's just that we seem to think one squirt lasts all day.

Although there are of course those who don't want to miss the narrow window we have to get a real tan.

I've never burnt in my life, yet I still wear cream, factor 30, especially after my Mother had skin cancer. I suspect though that there will be a large amount of lobsters on the sea front by tea time, all plonkers imo!

It just seems mad to me that people would risk their health for a bright red glow, It doesnt even look attractive!

Well I hope they don't live to regret it, they really should be using high factor sunscreen. I am now paying for my sun bathing in the 70's as I have been diagnosed with a basal cell carcinoma across the tip and side of my nose. Can't stand being in the sun now.

we should have a campaing like they do in OZ even though we dont get sun like they do its still dangerous

I am one of those who looks like a lobster today, I was only outside for an hour yesterday and as the evening wore on my skin got redder and more sore. I will be staying indoors until I can get some sunscreen. I have no money for some until tomorrow.

I burn easily and there have been a few occasions where I've got caught out and got very badly burned. On one occasion the whole of my chest was covered in blisters. I was seeing a nurse daily for something else at the time and she spent an extra half hour with me popping all the blisters. It was horrible.

Maybe some have been caught out too but I don't know why you would let that happen intentionally.

I don't think people realise how strong the sun is.

I spent 1/2 in the sun at a festival and got burnt. Luckily I go brown.

It may well be because the cosmetic effect of a skin tan is obtained through exposure to sunlight and as sunlight is at a premium in the UK, they mistakenly take full advantage.

Just 20 mins in the sun would just be as beneficial in attaining that tan as long exposures leading to burning.
