This bird is roosting on top our exterior light over our front door for the second year, he arrived back with us a few days ago, we know when he is here as he poops all over the doormat.

We are happy to see him come back this year :)

the mask pattern looks a bit like a reed bunting but I can't imagine one roosting that close to people but I can't see the colors but the beak looks heavy enough for a bullfinch they are also very shy...has it got a lot of pink?
Bunting?

I am almost wondering off colour house sparrow
Question Author
I never see it in daylight hours, those pics were taken through the window from indoors, so not much more info than those pics really.
the streaking on the breast looks like it might be a juvenile or female reed bunting but it is in totally the wrong place... try putting what you know through the RSPB bird identifier
As ratter said, we are so delighted he has come back to winter with us. I'll hang out a fat ball on the hanging basket hook beside the door so he has enough to eat. I suppose, as soon as we know what he is, we should give him a name. Any suggestions?
Looks very much like a House Sparrow RATTER
They are not as common these days as a lot of their Nesting habitat in the Eaves has largely gone due to new build type Houses
sparrows are ground or table feeders I've looked again on a bigger screen and an pretty sure it is an abnormally pale male house sparrow
