Hi - I need a small wall built in my back garden about 12 foot long and 12 inches high. How long would a bricklayer take to do this and what should I expect to pay? Thanks.

Is it a 9 inch wall?
I'd say about a day by himself, roughly £100 to £150.
Madsecslave?
I'm sure that'd be the maddest second of anyone's life, lol.

Uhh? Maddest second - I don't get it??
The materials would be extra.
Mad sec slave, hardly a boast, lol.
Everton it's medsec not madsec - as in medical secretary (am I right?)
Ha ha, it's either my eyes or my dirty mind, lol.
The problem with time and cost is that a wall that high will require (if the job's to be done properly and last) a footing that will need to be at least 12 to (preferably) 18 inches deep and 1/2 again as wide as the wall. He'll need to hand dig the trench, form and pour the footing. This will take more time than it would take an experienced brikcklayer to actually lay the wall...

Clanad - would you say more than £150 then?

Boxtops - yes you're right, as in medical secretary.

Everton - your eyes AND your dirty mind LOL!!
medsec... the materals involved in the footing will be minimal... a couple of 2 X 4 pieces of lumber and, of course the concrete (it should contain rebar for reinforcement however) so his time will be the major cost. Here in the U.S., a good bricklayer will make $60 to $70 per hour... you interpolate that with your currency to get a "ball park" figure...(Mrs. C was a medical secretary/transcriptionist here in the U.S. when she was still Miss K.)
