it will not work because modern systems have pumped flow and return pipes to create heat more quickly, at a constant temperature in the rads (hopefully), when compared to older gravity fed one pipe systems ( i am assuming your system is of this type)
also olders system pipe setups cannot cope with the pressure of a modern pumped system and yours rads need to be approximately 20% larger than with a system boiler
if you are going to upgrade your boiler then why not discuss with your installer or the people quoting for the work whether the pipe system and rads are adequate for the job and what they suggest/propose.
i know they will always suggest more work but i think it is necessary in your case

Thank you for your answer,my present system is gravity hot water & pumped heating 1 piped system.Do your comments still apply.
afraid so, you are looking at a system change and not just a boiler change.
two main reasons, meeting building regs and efficiency.
the building regs want controls (called boiler interlock) so as not to waste energy, such as pumped water and c/h, TRVs and programmers linked to thermostats.with pumped water it offers design changes as opposed to gravity systemswhere the water is higher than the boiler.have you noticed that people have boilers in their loft space now.
secondly it makes life hard for the boiler, as it wont disperse the heat with only one pipe .with only one pipe you wont achieve the 20 degree ideal difference between flow and return required for the heat exchangers to condense properly. basically it wont work correctly and will wear the boiler out earlier
sorry to bring you bad news
