Restoring marble vanity top

I have a marble vanity top in my bathroom. I have cleaned the taps and basin with a spray cleaner which I am sure has damaged the marble because there are tiny 'water spots' all over the marble. I have tried Lakeland marble cleaner but it hasn't made any difference. Any ideas would be welcome. does anyone know anything about cleaning it with borax?
