electric fire (not gas) I live in a semi detached dormer & the flue is on adjoining wall to neighbours?

thanks for that info, knowing my luck thats exactly what would happen
im a gas engineer and work with pre-cast flues but have never actually built or dismantled one. as said the flue blocks stack on each other but in a staggered manner, i would guess if you removed the lower ones you'd need to put a lintel of some sort in.

if i was you id ask a builder for advice.

try putting this question in the main home and garden section rather than the diy section cos you'll get more answers from the tradesmen then
You could just forget an electric fire & get a flueless one from http://www.gomodern.co.uk.. They will heat up your room far better than an electric fire & you dont need to remove the flue - simply cover it up.
