A little while ago I painted some mahogany doors and found it very difficult to get coverage even with a well keyed surface. I have now seen the result again and it is awful !! I became aware subsequently that there is a way to prepare oily woods for painting but have now forgotten !! Will somebody please remind me.

Firstly you should de-grease the door with white spirit on a lint free cloth & allow it to dry. Buy some aluminium primer & coat up the door, allow it to dry then carry-on as normal.
