If you are stripping to fit glands, measure back the length of the tail required then using a junior hacksaw cut thru the outer sheathing and about half way thru the armour, Using a sharp knife slit and remove the outer sheath, unwind the armorings and they should break cleanly where they have been scored. Fit the parts of the back gland, then measure the length of armour needed to fit the cone clamp and remove the outer sheath rotate the inner sheath to open the armourings & you can then assemble the gland.
If you are stripping it for the copper I'm afraid its the old knife & saw and hard work, as an apprentice at B.C. I had to strip miles of armoured cable of all sizes. If you are some where out of the way a fire will get rid of some of the P.V.C but it's smokey and smelly
