Our house was built in the 1950,s and has ceramic bricks on the external walls. What type of rawplug can I use so that I can put up curtain rails and large heavy mirrors? the bricks are hollow.

Have you tried heavey duty plasterboard plugs or the metal plasterboard plugs?
If they work for plasterboard should do the same for the brick you are on about.
Also if you do try them its not my fault if it doesnt work. LOL
