Nitromors paint stripper and elbow grease.
Try http://www.dumondchemicals.com/paint_remover.h tm . Expensive, but I've found it to be excellent. You could also give Nitromors a go, cheaper but very messy, & it also strips skin! Have you also thought of sending them to a specialist stripper who'll probably use a caustic tank.
Use a man with a tank , he will pickle them , you will be
pleased with the end result . Make sure visitors can sing
when you have no loo door !!! Easy have no visitors .
I should have added that when the doors are stripped using a caustic tank they need a load of preparation on them. This is due to the caustic & water solution lifting the grain on the wood. It can also have a detrimental effect on the glue in the joints.
If you choose the Nitromors takes many layers off type product - use thick plasic polythene to wrap them in to speed up the curing time and achieve a better result.
Think twice about it if they're Victorian doors. In those days putty was very often used to fill knot-holes and other defects in the wood. Also to fill holes where locks had been changed. Stripping will reveal this.
Heathfield you're correct on that one. I'm now re-painting stripped woodwork in many of my customers homes. The major problem being that they waxed the wood....paint doesn't adhere to wax!
