Well Mr NB has informed me I had better get my head round a 'bit' of disruption as he intends to paint the upstairs rooms.
Apart from the usual horror this evokes of mess and mayhem ( not to mention the fact I can't get out of the spare bed -its too low !
I don't know what will happen about super white gloss as ours is all turned tallow , I know its because of the solvent laws in2011 but do you have a tried and tested brand we could use.

many thanks

I used Jonstones satinwood brilliant white and it has stayed white, where ordinary gloss has turned yellow due to cigarette smoke.

thanks Kendra , did it also stay white on the side of the doors away from daylight ?
Oil-based paints tend to yellow. Water-based paints tend to stay white.
As heathfield says water based ones will stay whiter for much longer but for a really good finish then the oil based ones are best. These days it seems you can either have white or good as water based ones will never give the really good finish you can get will oil based ones.
