I've acquired a brace drill which is stamped Robt Sorby. There is also a small rectangle containing a saltire. Elsewhere on the metal another saltire occurs, but not enclosed. Does anyone know if this could indicate approximately when the tool was made?

True and he's developed a curious mahogany patina.
