My caryopteris shrub looks totally dead! Is it likely to recuperate if I cut it right back? I snapped a piece of it and there was barely a hint of green inside so any advice would be most welcome!

Had same problem last year, but always cut the shrub down in March to a few inches any way. It seemed to bounce back and had a profusion of flowers late summer.
It's got two chances! But worth trying the drastic treatment...........whereabouts in the country are you? If very far North I would wait a while, say till middle/end March: earlier if you're in the sunny South!

Thx sallybb & jumbo747. I shall take a chance & cut it back and see how it fares. Living in Kent it may well be in with a chance!
Yep...hack it right back. Do mine every year usually end of march time
