I have a standard conservatory on the side of my detached bungalow. Can I extend out from the french doors to make a bigger area. A 'T' shape in effect. Am I correct in thinking I cant go more than 30 sq meters in total? It will not affect anyone else.

Conservatories are treated as extensions. The 30 sq. metre rule is about Building Regs. Under 30 sq m is exempt from B/Regs but not from P/Permission.
Yes, you need to speak to your local planning office. Whether you need to apply for PP depends on what else has already been done to your house, and where it is in terms of planning categorisation - for example, Conservation Areas, AONB and National Parks almost always need an application.
