I'm thinking of changing from Virgin Media for telephone and going somewhere else . I was with Blue Yonder for years , before it was taken over by Virgin .

I'm going to ask them if there is a notice period required to cancel the service ( I cant find the original contract when I took out the service ) - in anticipation that they are going to say yes , i need to know if that would be correct or not .

Has anyone switched from virgin or know what would be correct ?

Well your Virgin phone line comes down the Virgin cable.

So if you want to switch phone company you will need to go back to the old "BT" line in your house (I assume you have one).

And there MAY be a reconnection charge to reconnect the BT line (even if you dont use BT on that line).

I am aware that there may be connection charges , depending to which provider I go to .

I just need to know if Virgin say there is a notice period for cancellation , how I can check that a notice period is valid , given that I dont have the papers that i signed when i took out the service with Blue Yonder all those years ago
I changed recently from virgin to bt with no cancellation fee. We were with released who were taken over by virgin.
I put tele west but it gets changed to released by my iPod!

I think I have looked up the right thing...it looks like you need to give 30 days notice after you have served your minimum contract period which is either 12 or 18 months.
Hmmm, somehow that link doesnt work. I have copied and pasted the question and answer for you:

"Is there a minimum contract period?

The minimum contract period for our services is either 12 or 18 months, depending on the particular offer or bundle.
If you decide to leave us within your minimum contract period, you may be charged outstanding line rental or monthly charges to the end of the contract. See our Terms & Conditions for full details of contract conditions. If you decide to leave us after your minimum contract period, you'll just need to give us 30 days' notice.
If you decide to upgrade during this period, you will be charged for your new services on a pro-rated basis. See Why have I received a partial month’s charge or credit?"
Think that vandc's answer has got it. After your initial contract period (usually 12 or 18 months) you have to give them notice and that's it!

...and tt also has worst customer service.
nothing beats Virgin Media for "worstness"
Personally I have never had a problem with them. I have been with them for years. Different strokes for different folks!
Virgin Media offered me a £2 refund for not having broadband for the whole weekend!
