My husband has boxed some plumbing in bathroom with 'Green' MDF (Moisture resistant MDF). We are planning to emulsion it but what to I prepare it with first? something like the Polycell 3 in 1 base coat for walls or do I use a wood primer / undercoat? TIA

There is an MDF primer available Louise, but you really only need it if you're going to finish with gloss or Satinwod etc. Emulsion is fine on its own. Treat it like new plaster. A "mist" coat first (very thin), then the usual couple of coats of emulsion to finish.
That's all a big con ...

Thinned out coat first. Stopper the surface well tho first or after first coat.
