If you do a search on google there are lots of theories about their origins, however, I can be most certain that fairy tales predate Robin Hood by a couple of thousand years.

Also look up celtic folklore for further info

They do exist, you just haven't seen them. And they aren't 6 inches tall either (although they aren't as tall as us), nor do they have wings. They'll let you see them when you are ready.

p.s. (don't call them by the f-word)

The Europeans before the arrival of Christianity, that's who started talking about them.  They were spirits of the woods and watery places.  Tribal communties today, such as the peoples of the Amazon rain forest, still believe in nature spirits of the forests and rivers.

Fairies certainly do exist - I know, because they live at the bottom of my garden - along with their little friends the pixies. Anyway, here's another version:

LAUGHTER

'When the first baby laughed for the first time, the laugh broke into a thousand pieces, and they all went skipping about, and that was the beginning of fairies'.

J M Barrie

According to Hollywood, Robin Hood wore tights. Would that make him a fairy?
Yep. Ryan Giggs is a more modern version.
