hello.....i live in a 2 unit place....with an illeagal in-law ........i do not live in the illeagal in law ....i live in the middle unit.......the landlord has stuck 3 people in what is a very small place ........what i would like to know is if there are any laws being broken here.........besides the noise there are water issues.......they wash lots and lots of dishes which diminishes our hot water......we have to take quick showers and that is not working for us..........we have spoken with the landlord about this and have written a letter as well.........there have also been many letters aboput the noise problem down there....in all the letters , there has been nothing done to correct these issues. In fact, they never even get back to us with a response. The water issues is first and foremost because i have to deal with it every morning....and.....evening for that matter......pretty much any time of day there is no hot water ......due to the continous use of water (washing dishes)they do wash an unusual amount of dishes and it is deeply affecting us.......can anything be done? thank you, Ed Zaldana

What's an ILLEAGAL IN-LAW?
The whole posting is very difficult to follow.
Are you living outside the UK- this site is used mainly in the UK so you may not get legal advice on non-UK law matters
I am glad they do not live in the illeagal in law though
I am not understanding this as good as the other two.
Just looked this one up. An illegal in law is like a granny flat, American term. Usually illegal if no permit has been applied for.

Ed, I suggest you contact your local planning authority for help or post on an american site..
