Locate a Grave

Hi All, I do hope that you will be able to help me. I am currently starting my family tree and on my mothers side, everything is fine and going well. However, on my fathers side is a totally different story...

My dads mother died in a very mysterious fire when he was a baby, he was brought up by his grandfather. We are trying to locate her grave but obviously my dad doesnt know anything about her, her date of birth etc, only her name and where she lived when she died. We have tried contacting the archives in our area and they need to know these details, such as date and place of birth before helping us.

Is there anyway of locating her grave without these details, I have thought to phone all the churches in the area that she lived to see if they have records of her grave/date of death?

All we have is her name and approximate year of death...

Her name was - Jennie Squire (maiden name - Kellet)
She was living in Spalding, Lincolnshire and possible year of death was 1931/32.

Sorry, Kellett should be spelt with 2 t's.

Jenny Squire died December 1/4 (Oct-Nov-Dec) 1931 aged 26.
The reference number is Spalding 7a 407. You should be able to apply to the Register Office in Spalding for a copy of the death certificate using that.

Where was she born ?

Being born in Scotland is brilliant !!!
You wouldn't believe the information that they have on their birth/marriage records. Unfortunately, I don't have an account with 'Scotlands People'. :o(

If you have a debit card you can purchase credits from the site and that will enable you to look through the records.

You know that you are looking for Jennie Kellett born 1905/6.

I'll see if I can find out anything before proceeding to the 'payment' phase...................................don't go away..................:o)

For the years 1903 to 1908, putting Jennie and Jenny Kellett and Kellet into the Scotlands People site brought zero returns !?!

Putting the surname only in brought 1(one) result, Unfortunately, I can't see it as I would need to pay...............

Just one thing...........are you SURE she was Scottish ? Kellett is a name common to Cumberland/Cumbria.

Family history had it that my great-grandmother was a Stewart born in Scotland..........she was a Stewart, but born here in Lancashire :o)

Not 100% certain that she was scottish, only going on what my dad has been told when he was younger. Mudman, thank you for your kind comment, all is much appreciated!

you could try the 1911 census, if she was born 1905/6 you could search for children with that name

I will contact the registry office tomorrow and hopefully be able to collect the documents by the end of the week, maybe? Of course, I will let you know how things go... thank you so much to all that have helped me, my dad passed on his gratitude to you all too.

He's now in his twilight years (80yrs old) he has angina and prostrate cancer and I would love to find where she is buried so that I can take him to see her before anything happens to him.

Maybe my dads fathers (Jennie's husband) details may be of some help, perhaps?

Wilfred Oscar Squire, born 1st may 1907, not sure when he died maybe 1975? and we think he lived in Chesterfield after Jennie died, we do know that he re-married quite quickly after this "mysterious" house fire that Jennie died in.

Quite bizarre though, just spoken to dad again and he remembers one of his half-brothers saying, years ago, that Wilfred had gone into the attic, found a box of documents and burned them. Also, I live in the village where my dads cousins and auntie (elderly lady now) live but they won't tell us anything either. Very hush, hush it seems.
